Suicide is one of the most preventable deaths. Suicide First Aid and Suicide First Aid Lite courses can both provides the skills and knowledge to intervene and help someone who may have thoughts of suicide; to help them to stay safe from their thoughts, and stay alive.
Suicide First Aid Lite
Delivered over 3 hours for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people at risk of suicide. An emotionally engaging learning experience, the Suicide First Aid Lite course is split into two 90-minute sessions with topics including: Stigma, Suicide Thoughts & Behaviour, Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, The Ripple Effect, Suicide Safety Guidance and Referrals.
The course structure includes:
- Tutor-facilitated Socratic learning
- Tutor-led skills practise
- Mini lectures
- Group work
- Audio-visual presentations
The Suicide First Aid Lite course can be used as a forerunner to the one-day Suicide First Aid course.
Suicide First Aid (Understanding Suicide Intervention
Suicide First Aid is short educational course, recognised as an international Accredited Unit of Learning by City & Guilds International.
A one-day suicide prevention programme, SFA comprises of seven hours of tutor-led, interactive learning. SFA teaches the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting.
SFA is split into four sessions of 90 minutes per session. The programme teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to help identify someone who may be thinking about suicide. Learners are equipped with the skills to competently intervene and help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.
Additionally, the suicide prevention stigma awareness delivered by our course allows for a greater level of open discussion and signposting in the workplace.
Through adequate suicide prevention training and suicide intervention skills training delivered by experienced suicide prevention trainers, critical suicide interventions are made possible. This First Aid, through understanding suicide intervention, can prove vital in a mental health crisis in any setting.

Each SFA session includes:

Each group can be made up of a maximum of 16 learners
No previous experience or training is required to partake in any of these courses.
Participants of the Suicide First Aid course (SFAUSI) can opt to complete an additional City & Guilds Level 4 unit qualification, open to every learner on completion of an assignment and enrolment fee.
