The Mental Health First Aid Course covers:
Mental Health First Aid for a range of situations and action-planning for using MHFA
Knowledge of some mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, personality disorders,
eating disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and psychosis. Risk factors, symptoms and treatment
will also be explored.
Key information regarding mental health stigma and discrimination. Exploration around how it
presents and how to combat it.
Key suicide figures as well as first aid for suicidal crisis
Self-harming behaviours and an understanding of crisis intervention
Self-care techniques and other mental health skills such as non-judgemental listening
How alcohol and drugs can impact on mental health
Employees who become qualified in MHFA will have:
An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that affect wellbeing
Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental ill-health
Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
Develop skills such as non-judgemental listening
Knowledge to help someone recover their mental health by signposting them to further support.
Signposting may include: self-help resources, counsellor/ therapist, HR/ employer, the NHS
Why Become a Mental Health First Aider?
The two-day Mental Health First Aid course teaches delegates to gain the knowledge, experience and skills that wil enable them to spot the signs and symptoms of someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis or issue. Becoming a Mental Health First Aider also helps to develop confidence in starting and tackling conversations around mental health and wellbeing. The Mental Health First Aid course also teaches delegates how to signpost people to further support.
How is the course delivered?
The Mental Health First Aid Course is delivered online or face-to-face in a classroom setting.
Learners are taught over four live sessions
The course is a mix of instructor-led sessions, group discussions and activities
Learners are taught how to support others using the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
Groups are kept to a maximum of 16 delegates. Some groups are much smaller than this.

Everyone who completes the Mental Health First Aid Course will receive:
A copy of the workbook to support their learning and to keep for future reference
A digital manual to refer to whenever needed
