Suicide is one of the most preventable deaths. Both the Suicide First Aid and Suicide First Aid Lite courses can provide the skills to help someone who may have thoughts of suicide.
Suicide First Aid Lite
Delivered over 3 hours for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people at risk of suicide. An emotionally engaging learning experience, the Suicide First Aid Lite course is split into two 90-minute sessions.
Topics include:
- Stigma, Suicide Thoughts & Behaviour.
- Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide.
- The Ripple Effect.
- Suicide Safety Guidance and Referrals.
The course structure includes:
- Tutor-facilitated Socratic learning.
- Tutor-led skills practise.
- Mini lectures.
- Group work.
- Audio-visual presentations.
The Suicide First Aid Lite course can be used as a forerunner to the one-day Suicide First Aid course.
Suicide First Aid (Understanding Suicide Intervention)
Suicide First Aid is a short educational course, recognised as an international Accredited Unit of Learning by City & Guilds International.
A one-day suicide prevention programme, SFA comprises of seven hours of tutor-led, interactive learning. SFA teaches the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills.
Split into four sessions of 90 minutes per session, the programme teaches the skills and knowledge needed to help identify someone who may have suicidal thoughts. Learners are equipped with the skills to intervene and help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.
Additionally, the suicide prevention stigma awareness delivered by this course allows open discussion and signposting in the workplace.
Through suicide prevention training and suicide intervention skills training, critical suicide interventions are made possible. This First Aid, through understanding suicide intervention, can prove vital in a mental health crisis in any setting.
Suicide First Aid training includes interactive and engaging learning across the following areas:

- Intention of Behaviour Versus Outcome of Behaviour.

Each SFA session includes:
- Tutor-facilitated Socratic learning.
- Tutor-led skills practise.
- Mini lectures.
- Group work exercises.
- Audiovisual presentations.
Each group can be made up of a maximum of 16 learners. No previous experience or training is required to partake in any of these courses.
Participants of the Suicide First Aid course (SFAUSI) can opt to complete an additional City & Guilds Level 4 unit qualification, open to every learner on completion of an assignment and enrolment fee.
